Greece has started the salvage of 49-meter superyacht 007.

The 49-meter Aegean Yacht superyacht 007’s salvage operation has started after the boat capsized and sank last month. Jonathan Jones, a reader of the SuperYacht Times, saw the activity this past weekend while taking in the sunlight off the Greek island of Kythnos.

The salvage team started to recover floating items from inside the oil barrier that had been set up around the yacht during her sinking as soon as the rescue ship Aegis 2 anchored alongside 007’s stern. These items included furniture and other debris.

The maritime authorities in Greece have not yet revealed the cause of the disaster, although some suspect stability difficulties with the ship, which has undergone numerous extensions and modifications since her 2006 delivery.

The yacht sank during a time when several yachts were being destroyed in fires and other similar incidents, both in Greece and throughout the rest of the world.
